Double Virginal

The Enlish Virginalist school was a group of keyboard composers working during the late Tudor and early Jacobean eras. There are lots of manuscripts and collections by these composers, including My Ladye Nevells Booke, the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, and Parthenia. This is a list of composers who are usually linked with this school.

John Blitheman[1] 1525 1591 15 pieces in The Mulliner Book. He succeeded Thomas Tallis as organist in the Chapel Royal.
William Byrd 1543 1623 3 volumes of Cantiones sacrae, 2 volumes of Gradualia, 3 masses, and pieces in the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book. He is considered one of the greatest composers of the Renaissance and had extensive influence spreading throughout Europe.
