Levente Laszlo Lazar is a man convicted of the premeditated murder of his mother, Athena Valentiny, for financial gain.[1]

Levente Laszlo Lazar was born on May 7, 1992, in Hungary, and was the son of Athena Valentiny, a licensed vocational nurse. Valentiny resided in Grover Beach, California, where she owned a condominium and received rental income from another property in Woodland Hills, California. She worked at the California Men’s Colony State Prison.

Lazar was Valentiny's son. Levente Laszlo Lazar was born on 05/07/1992, in Hungary. At the time of the crime Lazar lived in Bloomington, Indiana, with his girlfriend while pursuing a master's degree in history at Indiana University. At the time of the crime, Lazar was 26 years old[2]

Crime and Conviction

On October 24, 2018, Levente Lazar murdered his mother, Athena Valentiny, aged 64, in her Grover Beach home. The murder was determined to be premeditated and motivated by financial gain. The case was investigated by law enforcement in San Luis Obispo County, California.[2]

A San Luis Obispo County jury found Lazar guilty of first-degree premeditated murder. During trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Lazar intended to kill his mother in order to inherit her property and financial assets. The jury’s verdict was announced following deliberations that concluded his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.[3]
