Lev Vilen Eppelbaum, (in Russian: Лев Вилен Эппельбаум) born in 1959 in Tbilisi, Georgia, is a Russian-Israeli scientist and geophysics professor known for his work in geophysics, gravity & magnetics.[1], and geophysical, atmospheric, and planetary sciences. Lev Eppelbaum is a Research Professor at Tel Aviv University and an honorary professor at Azerbaijan State Oil & Industry University[2]. He is also a Foreign Member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences[3] and the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RANS). Over the years, Professor Eppelbaum has authored about 450 publications, including 12 books and over 190 articles. [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]

Early life and education

Lev Eppelbaum was born in 1959 in Tbilisi, Georgia, and attended the Azerbaijan State Oil & Industry University, receiving an MSc Degree in geophysics, and the Institute of Geophysics of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences and Moscow State Mining Academy, receiving a PhD in Geophysics PhD from the Institute of Geophysics in Tbilisi. Professor Eppelbaum is a passionate chess player, reaching the level of chess champion. Together with fellow chess team member G. Kasparov, he played against A. Karpov, and V. Kortchnoi.

Scientific and academic career

During his tenure as a senior researcher in the laboratory of gravity and magnetics at the Institute of Geophysics in Baku, Lev Eppelbaum focused on processing and interpreting potential geophysical fields in complex environments and analyzing thermal/pressure data in wells. As a faculty member, he participated in several bi-national workshops for scientists. As an expert in his field, Professor Eppelbaum is regularly invited as a speaker at scientific conferences.

Professor Eppelbaum has published articles in the field of developments in archaeological prospection, methodologies for localization of the Dead Sea sinkholes, methodologies for paleomagnetic mapping, system for geophysical potential field analysis

Personal life and family

Lev Eppelbaum is married to Elina Markus Eppelbaum (Kreinin), whom he met at a party with friends. The couple have two children, Esfir Eppelbaum (1987) and Tal-Meiron Eppelbaum (1996).
