L’Etoile[4] (French: L'Etoile — star) — a Russian retail chain selling cosmetics and perfumery.
The L’Etoile network is managed by the company «Alcor & Co», owned by the Cypriot offshore Letu Holdings[5]. In 2013, it ranked 17th in revenue size among the top 30 retailers in Russia[6][7]. By 2018, the network consisted of more than 840 stores. Revenue was — 66.1 billion rubles[8]. As of 2020, L’Etoile was the second largest retailer of cosmetics and perfumery in Russia by revenue, after Magnit Cosmetics[5].
History
[edit]The first L’Etoile store was opened in 1997 in Moscow by Maxim Klimov[9], at the site of the well-known Soviet-era store «Ruslan» on Smolensk Square. In the same year, a store was opened on Dorogomilovskaya Street in Moscow, which is still operating today [source not cited, 69 days].
In 1998, the first regional store was opened in Voronezh[10].
Since 2003, «Alcor & Co» obtained a franchise from the French holding LVMH and opened Sephora stores. In 2011, the company lost the license to develop the Sephora brand — it was transferred to «Il de Boté»[11].
From 2008 to the end of 2013, the face of the brand was French singer Patricia Kaas. From 2011 to 2012, Russian actress Maria Shukshina advertised the L’Etoile own brand together with Patricia Kaas[12].
Since 2011, Maxim Klimov stepped down from business management[13].
In 2013, the L’Etoile network was a laureate of the Rosbusinessconsulting award in the category «Retail Chain»[14].
In 2020, L’Etoile bought the store chain «Podruzhka», which had been operating since 2005. After the merger, the «Podruzhka» network retained its name, and the total number of stores in the combined network reached one thousand[15]. Until 2022, «Alcor & Co» owned 90% of the shares of «Taber Trade», which managed the «Podruzhka» network. In summer 2022, the remaining 10% were transferred under the control of «Alcor & Co»[16].
In 2022, LLC «Alcor & Co» created a subsidiary IT company — LLC «Letutech». The company's activities include developing computer software[17].
In February 2023, the company announced a rebranding, changing the brand name to «L’Etoile»[4].
