Lerong Lu (Chinese: 吕乐融) is a Chinese lawyer, legal scholar, and writer. He works at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London as a reader in law and the director of postgraduate studies at specializing in international financial law and regulation.[1] He is also the Founding Director of the King’s Law & Technology LLM Program.[2]

Education

Lu received bachelors degrees in law and economics from the East China University of Political Science and Law, after which he attended University of Leeds, from which he received a Master of Laws and Doctor of Philosophy.[1] His doctoral dissertation was supervised by Andrew Campbell.[3] Additionally, Lu is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and holds a Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Overseas Research Students. He is a qualified lawyer of the People's Republic of China.[citation needed]

Lu was previously Lecturer in Law at the University of Bristol.[4]

Lu has authored three acclaimed books: Towards Financial Superpower (Oxford University Press, 2025)[5], Global Fintech Revolution (Oxford University Press, 2024)[6] and Private Lending in China (Routledge, 2019)[7].

On 10 April 2024, Lerong Lu appeared on BBC One’s Morning Live with presenter Nick Stapleton to discuss the legal implications of deepfake technology and its impact on public perceptions of politicians and celebrities.[16] Broadcast nationwide across the UK, the interview highlighted emerging issues at the intersection of Law and Technology, with Lu offering practical advice on identifying deepfake scams.
