- Comment: Most publications by subject of article or his employer so not independent. Others do not provide sufficiently significant coverage. The current references 27 and 28 are in a Google drive, which I don't think can count as published. I would suggest limiting the "contributions" section to key publications for which there are reliable sources discussing why they are important. Mgp28 (talk) 15:22, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
Lee A. Doernte is an American exercise physiologist, paramedic, and academic who has focused his research on health sciences and emergency medical services. He is an Assistant Professor.[1][2] at West Texas A&M University, with studies on the physiological demands placed on first responders aimed at enhancing their performance and patient outcomes during emergencies.Lee A. Doernte serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences.[3]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Doernte was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He earned a B.S. in Fitness and Wellness Management, Summa Cum Laude, from Eastern Kentucky University[4] in 2017, and an M.S. in Health and Wellness Management from the same institution in 2018. He obtained his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences from the University of Nevada - Las Vegas in 2021, where his dissertation focused on CPR techniques.[5]
Career
[edit]Before his current role, Doernte served as a paramedic across various Kentucky counties[6] since 2006 and as a part-time instructor at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas. His practical experience in emergency medical services complements his academic research. Lee A. Doernte is an Assistant Professor of Sports and Exercise Science[7] ), where he specializes in the study of physiological demands on first responders and the application of exercise science principles in emergency medical services.[8]
Research and Impact
[edit]Doernte's research has focused on to improvements in emergency medical practices, notably through his studies on CPR and the physiological demands on first responders. His work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals[9]
Key Publications
[edit]- Accuracy of VO2 Testing Using Apple Watches[10]:this study assesses the Apple Watch Series 5's capability of estimating VO2max compared to a zero-VO2-analyzerMasterPro. However, with the female participants, there were major differences in values, while average restrained individuals showed only minor effects. These results reinforce that wearable devices can only reach certain c-v fitness measurements.
- Metabolic and Performance Differences of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Between a Hard Surface and Hospital Mattress[11]: this study evaluates the effect of CPR of performing it on a hospital mattress or hard surface. It highlights the perturbation generated by mattress surfaces, which has important implications for compression depth degradation and energy expenditure, which may compromise the quality of CPR delivery and patient outcomes.
- Effect of Metronome, Hospital Mattress, and Step Stool Usage on Chest Compression Rate and Depth During Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation CPR: A Collection of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses[12]: this study evaluates the effect of a metronome, or hospital mattress and step stool effects on CPR quality. It found no impact of metronomes on the rate or depth of compression but did find that step stools help both and speed slightly. This could improve the effectiveness and adherence to the guidelines of CPR.
- Body Composition and Body Composition Relative to Height in Collegiate Softball Players[13]: this study describes body composition among collegiate softball players and FFMI by player position. Overall, it shows large differences in body fat percentage across positions but not much when looking at lean mass or FFMI. This study gives insight and suggests future research possibilities as to how body composition metrics differ among different positions within softball.
- Effects of Body Position and Electrode Type on the Reliability of Bioimpedance Spectroscopy: 3356 Board# 225 June 2 9[14]: this study aimed to examine the reproducibility of bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) measurements carried out in different body postures and using various electrode types. While it says data from both metal and gel-backed electrodes are reliable, the results using a standard compared to not-a-standard electrodes are more repeatable over time with metal.
- Bioimpedance Spectroscopy Measurements Comparing Different Body Positions and Electrode Types in Men and Women: 1989 Board# 250 May 31 3: 30 PM-5: 00 PM[15] : this study assesses the influence of body position and electrode type on bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) measurements. It concludes that assessments from both sitting and standing positions with BIS metal electrodes are highly correlated to traditional supine measurements using gel-backed electrodes but provide slightly higher resistance values on average. These differences reveal that metal electrode-based sensors at different sites must be corrected.
- Use of Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry Measurements to Evaluate Total Body Volume When Compared to Air Displacement Plethysmography for Evaluating Body Composition in a Four Compartment Model[16]: this study evaluates the use of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) as an estimator of body volume in comparison to air displacement plethysmography (BodPod). The results show that it is feasible to predict three-compartment and two-compartment body volume with DXA-derived models as accurate or close to BodPod but less reliable for four-comp. Model-based fat-free mass prediction. This suggests the necessity to improve existing formulas or develop new methods of measuring body volume more precisely in a comprehensive evaluation.
Awards and Recognition
[edit]Lee A. Doernte has been recognized for his research in the field of health sciences, receiving two Killgore Faculty Research Grants from the WTAMU Graduate School and the Killgore Research Committee.
