History
[edit]2023, Formation and Early Years
[edit]Kiwihug is a South Korea-based art rock band formed in 2023, recognized for their raw and avant-garde musical style that pushes the boundaries of creativity.
The band Kiwihug emerged from a foundation of unpredictable musical journeys and pure creative experimentation, offering something fresh and innovative at every moment.
In 2023, Kiwihug officially launched their musical career with the release of their debut single, "Small Town Madness!".[1] The song is divided into two distinct parts, combining sounds from different eras into one track, making it a refreshing and unique endeavor that received praise from both fans and critics. This debut single played a crucial role in defining the band’s identity and has been regarded as a work that showcases their immense potential.
Through their debut single, Kiwihug left a strong impression on the indie music scene, fueling anticipation for their future endeavors.
Sophomore Single Release
[edit]In May 2024, after nearly a year-long hiatus, Kiwihug broke their silence with the release of their second single, "Black Goat". They also introduced "Elegy Song", a prelude single, marking the beginning of a new musical chapter. "Elegy Song" is an experimental track heavily influenced by IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) elements, delivering an immersive experience through intricate beats and dreamy soundscapes, while establishing the narrative leading into the main work, "Black Goat".
In contrast to their previous work, "Black Goat" stands out with its darker and more intense atmosphere, capturing Kiwihug’s signature sharp yet raw sound in greater depth. The track’s mysterious melodies and experimental arrangements push beyond their earlier musical framework, delivering a powerful message. It is widely regarded as a turning point, showcasing the band’s deeper musicality and new direction.
"Black Goat" received critical acclaim from both fans and critics alike, solidifying Kiwihug's creative journey. Later that year, in November, they released the EP Black Goat Remix, further expanding on the single's themes.[1]
