Kharl Gibran Borja Lataza (born December 2, 1993) is a Filipino entrepreneur known for co-founding the Ora Coin Foundation. He specializes in integrating blockchain technology with environmental sustainability, in projects like tree planting connected to cryptocurrency.[1][2]
Early life and education
[edit]Lataza was born on December 2, 1993, in Cebu City, Philippines. His father works as a security manager and his mother managed their home while encouraging him to dream big despite their limited resources. His parents came from a fisherman village in Dalaguete province, Cebu, Philippines. Lataza went to Cebu Technological University (CTU) for his Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. He was there for only two years since he could no longer afford to pay for his tuition fees. [3][4][2]
Career
[edit]Lataza started with a small entrepreneurial venture after being forced out of college because of financial problems.[3][4] He first managed to sell local products[5]; he ran an online shop and did extra freelance work. From there he gradually gained experience in multiple industries and started working on his goal.[4] Lataza and his brother founded KGL Softouch in 2010, a web development company where they taught themselves programming. In 2014, he launched HostingVisa[5], a web hosting and domain registration service, which he later sold to an Australian company.[2][5]
Lataza ventured into the automotive industry, establishing Lataza Auto Trading in 2017 and Lataza Car Rentals in 2018, which offered affordable second-hand cars and rental services. He later created JuanRent Inc., a car rental platform, but it was eventually shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.[6] Lataza launched Ceramiq Inc. during the pandemic. The company offered automotive window films and closed in 2022 after Typhoon Odette. Other projects included JuanPOS, which sold payment machines, and La Taza International Learning Center, a preschool in Metro Manila.[citation needed]
Lataza moved to Dubai in 2023 and set up Sige Go Portal LLC[citation needed], offering eco-friendly web hosting under the brand Gomommy.ae in the MENA region. Lataza in 2024 co-founded the Ora Coin Foundation with Brian Christopher Aguilar. [citation needed]Ora Coin is an environmentally friendly cryptocurrency that ties each coin to a tree-planting initiative. His work has since focused on combining blockchain technology with ecological projects, creating global impact through innovative solutions.[citation needed]
