Kew College Prep (previously known as Kew College) is a non-denominational mixed preparatory school in Kew in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Kew College Prep is an independent prep school for children aged 3 to 11 .
History
[edit]Kew College Prep began in 1927.[1] as a small school located in a room above a shop in Kew. As the number of pupils grew, the school moved to a large Victorian house in Cumberland Road. In 1953 the school expanded into a second house in Cumberland Road. It became a charitable trust in 1985 [2].
Present day
[edit]Kew College Prep averages 292 pupils between the ages of 3 and 11[3]. Children start in the Nursery and stay at the school until the end of Year 6 when they move to secondary school. The school values the whole curriculum approach and children shine in sports and arts as well as academics. As a result, Kew College Prep children operate at a high academic level and move on to some of London's top secondary schools [4] [5]. The school aims to provide children with a vibrant, well-balanced, broad and enriching educational experience, whilst maintaining a nurturing environment, where children feel happy and enjoy working with each other [6].
The facilities at the school include a delightful art room, an impressive ICT suite and science lab [7], a hall, used for a variety of activities including assemblies, PE and dance, as well as a dedicated room for music [8], a lovely playground with new play equipment and a well-stocked library which is at the heart of the school.
The school has specialist teachers all through for French, science, ICT, art, music and dance. Music is strong, with all pupils taught to read music and most signing up to instrumental lessons from year 1 [9].
The school’s successful 11+ programme ensures that each child is provided with a tailored learning plan to support them through the 11+ process and the transition to secondary school [10]. Year 5 and Year 6 children have specialist Maths, English and Reasoning courses as part of the programme and are supported with bespoke learning, exam prep and interview practice. The 11+ programme is complemented by the efforts of an experienced team, including teachers and the Head, who work with the children and their families to relieve any stress and pressure in the senior school decision process [11]
