Juan J Ty (April 16 1924-May 27, 1999)

Politician,and former military soldier Johnny as he was called, started his career in the military and joined the Philippine Constabulary during the second world war, eventually volunteered at United States Armed Forces at the Far East (USAFFE), he retired with the rank of Master Sergeant.

Early Years

He was born in Cotabato City of a Chinese christian Muslim descent.His Father Ty Ak or Aga Ty a businessman from Mainland China and mother Tamba Juanday Ty a scion of Juanday clan/Datu Lukes Masser.

He finished his primary and secondary school in his hometown Cotabato City.He was married to an Ilocana from Kiamba, Sarangani Petronia Balanag Ty and blessed with 8 children.

Entrepreneur/businessman:

After retiring from the military in mid 1950"s he established his own business in a gas and petroleum station and as a salesman in automotive industry. He was elected as the corporate Secretary of the Cotabato Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and as a spokesman because of his fluency in Maguindanaon, Chavacano dialects, Chinese and English languages.


Political Career

Johnny first entered politics when he was elected Cotabato City Vice Mayor under Nationalista Party November 11, 1969- February 02 1975.

He was appointed as Cotabato City Mayor on February 03, 1975- January 30, 1980.He regained his political career when he won his electoral protest and proclaimed by the Comision on Elections against Teodoro V Juliano and assumed to office as elected City Mayor on March 05, 1984-March 30, 1986.
