Joseph Nocella Jr. is an American lawyer and judge who has served as a New York district court judge for Long Island since 2022.

Early life and education

Nocella graduated from Fordham University in 1986 and received his Juris Doctor from Columbia University in 1989.[1]

Career

Assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York

Nocella served as an assistant United States attorney for the Eastern District of New York from 1991 to 1995, where he successfully prosecuted cases against a married couple who stole $35 million from large banks and against Vittorio Amuso, the head of the Lucchese crime family.[1] He served as an attorney for Nassau County, New York, and as a town attorney in Oyster Bay and Hempstead.[1]

Long Island district judge

In 2022, Nocella became a New York district court judge for Long Island.

U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York

On January 6, 2025, president-elect Donald Trump named Nocella as his nominee for United States attorney for the Eastern District of New York.[1]
