John F. Cantwell (September 17, 1886-January 20, 1965) was a politician in Ohio. He served in the Ohio House of Representatives including as Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives. A Democrat, he served for five terms beginning in 1940. After the Democrats got control of the House they elected him Speaker in 1949.

He was born in Youngstown, Ohio. His father was Youngstown's first police chief and was in the insurance and real estate businesses.[1] Cantwell represented from Mahoning County in the 94th, 95th, 96th, 97th, and 98th General Assemblies of Ohio.[2]

Me married Catherine Kerwin and they had eight children. He was Catholic.[1]
