Jerry Jr. Mercury (born unknown) is an Canadian basketball player. basketball player. He played college basketball for the Mohawk Mountaineers (CCAA) and is now a professional player in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) for the Niagara River Lions
Early life and high school career
[edit]Mercury was born in Scarborough, Ontario.[1] He attended Pine Ridge Secondary School in Pickering, Ontario.[2]
College career
[edit]Mercury is a third-year forward for the Mohawk Mountaineers men’s basketball team[3]
During the 2022-23 season, Mercury had a standout year, averaging 18.8 points per game on 50.6 per cent shooting and 10.6 rebounds.[4] He picked up 10 double-doubles on the season.[5] Mercury’s performance moved to the next level in four OCAA playoff games that year, as he averaged 22.3 points and 15 rebounds.[6]
In the 2023-24 season, despite an injury-riddled season that had him miss six games, Mercury averaged 22.6 points and 10.4 rebounds, with six double-doubles. [7] Additionally, with the missed time, Mercury still finished 14th in OCAA scoring, with 271 total points [8]
College career
[edit]Professional career In a significant move, Mercury declared for the 2024 CEBL draft[9] He was selected 30th overall by the Niagara River Lions in the 2024 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Draft[10] This makes him the first athlete from the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) to be drafted to the CEBL[11]
