Biography
[edit]Son of Edmond Coste, a graduate of the military school in Salon-de-Provence and an officer in the French Air Force, and Émilienne Girod, he grew up in Aix-en-Provence and then followed his father's military assignments to Algeria, in Oran and then Algiers.
At eighteen, he left for Paris to study psychomotricity at the Salpêtrière Hospital Salpêtrière hospital..[1] .
On May 6, 1964, he married Jeanine Forestier with whom he had a daughter : Caroline Michaud[2]
In 1971, he married Édith Wolgensinger with whom he had a son: Jerome [3] .
In 1975, Jean-Claude Jitrois was appointed by Simone Veil, then Minister of Health, at the direction of the Higher Institute of Psychomotor Rehabilitation of Nice[4],[5],[6] He will co-sign a book with Giselle Soubiran, then director of the Higher Institute of Psychomotor Rehabilitation in Paris, in 1975 entitled Psychomotor skills and psychosomatic relaxation written in collaboration with Giselle Soubiran, then Body and Graphics
In 1975, Jean Claude published three other books, The 50 keywords of psychomotricity and Psycho-syntonic relaxation [7] (both in 1976) and finally the “What do I know?» on Psychomotricity in 1977 [5] .
He taught psychomotor skills until 1976, when he opened his first store, rue Tonduti de l'Escarène, in Nice . In 2016, Jean-Claude Jitrois took part in the retrospective of Kerry James Marshall at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in one of its stores on Madison Avenue in New York[14]
Jitrois expanded across the United States, opening a store on Madison Avenue in New York. This was followed by Aspen and a “Shop in Shop» in Bal Harbor, Miami.
The Jitrois stores are designed by Christophe Pillet [15] , [16], collaborator of Philippe Starck for more than ten years.
Top models such as Kate Moss [17], Naomi Campbell [17], Stella Tennant , wear his collections.
Celebrities such as Beyoncé [18], Nancy Ajram [19], FKA Twigs [19], wear its products.
