Early life
[edit]Ja-Waun Antonio Curtis was born on October 27th,2004 into an artistic family in Long Beach, California. His mother Jewell Caples also known as Jewell "The first lady of Death Row Records", a singer that has performed on multi-platinum R&B/Hip-Hop albums.[7] Jawaun and his other two Brothers (Joel and JaMell) all got a piece of Jewell's Musical talent, with JaMell being able to Rap along with Joel and Jawaun being able to Rap and sing. Jawaun was Born nearly two months early and almost died inside of his mother. Up until Jawaun was three years old, His mother had to constantly take Jawaun back and forth to the hospital for breathing treatments, pneumonia, viruses, and everything else his little immune system couldn't fight off.[4] Soon after His birth, Jawaun left his hometown with Joel being in the military it was just Jawaun, JaMell, and his mother and they moved to Austin Texas where they lived for Five years. Jawaun had a speech impediment and could not talk until he was five years old. Before then Jawaun would just hum music all the time. In 2010 Jawaun's mother Jewell was recording her studio album "My Blood My Sweat and My tears",[8] where Jawaun was featured and singing the bridge on the track "Gonna be Alright". Before Jawaun was supposed to go in the studio he snuck in when his mother was not looking and started playing the drums like he had been playing the drums for years, Jawaun only being Six years old at the time surprised his mother and made her happy to see that Jawaun had such a good musical ear at such a young age. Jewell even wrote in her book to Jawaun saying that
"You are my Chris brown and even though you're only six, I think about what you told me the other day: "Mama I'm going to be a star on TV" I could have never imagined that I would record a song with you at the age of six. Keep singing. Mama loves you!" In 2014 Jawaun, his brother JaMell, and his mother moved to Idaho. Jawaun's mother was a single mother working two jobs to take care of her boys, Jawaun's mother had thought she had the Flu for three months, so she was eating chicken noodle soup and taking cough medicine etc. towards the end of the 2014 Jawaun's mother had died in Walmart when she was working, and the manger had gave her CPR until the ambulance got there. The ambulance was able to resuscitate Her and the only thing that saved her life was because her manger was giving her CPR until the ambulance got there. The doctors told Jawaun's mother that she had pneumonia for three months straight and not the Flu. This caused her lungs to be heavily scared and they could not recover from the damaged that had happened, The doctors diagnosed her with interstitial lung disease (LID).[9] In 2015 Jawaun's mother bought him an Organ and a Guitar, they could not afford to pay for lessons so Jawaun just played around with the instruments and is self-taught on both Organ and Guitar. In 2016 his mothers health kept declining and the doctor told her if she kept over working herself she was going to kill herself, so Jawaun moved to San Antonio,Texas[10] with his brother Joel so his mom could focus on her health. During the four years away from his mom Jawaun pushed himself to work hard and perfect his craft so in the future he can make money and take care of his mother. Jawaun practiced music, acting, songwriting, architecture, and art & crafts. In 2019 Jawaun moved back with his mother and started taking film class through his school, learning how to work cameras, equipment and how to edit . In November of that year Jawaun had a project for his Honors earth science class where they had to film a video about a star and Jawaun had made a sound track to go with there video. For the soundtrack Jawaun did a cover of Doja cat's song rules,[11] DJ Durel's song come on,[12] and Megan Thee Stallions song hot girl summer.[13] These weren't just regular covers Jawaun had rewrote the songs with facts from his project and put his own little spin on each track.
In November of 2020 Jawaun and his mother were invited to Snoop Dogg's Compound to celebrate Warren G's[14]birthday.Jawaun was able to meet major Artist like Too $hort,[15] KDUBB, DJ Quik,[16] Snoop Dogg[17] and many more.
