Jason Nkanga[1] (born 10 May 1998), widely known by Jason Nkanga is a Nigerian hip hop rapper and songwriter. He came into the music scene with his EP Beyond My Imagination.

Early Life

Nkanga was born on 10th May 1998, at Lewisham, University in Lewisham, England.[2] At the age of 3, Jason and his whole family moved from England to Nigeria to reside. This was where he spent most of his life. While in secondary school, he took part in talent shows which in turn helped Nkanga met other creatives.

Career

In 2014, while based in Abuja, Nigeria, Nkanga put out his first song "Go Dumb" featuring PsychoYP. Shortly after that, he decided to take a break for two years. During his hiatus, he was introduced to Banx by his friend in 2016. The pair went on to work on his very first body of work, “Beyond My Imagination” which was released 25th August 2016[3]. In 2018, Nkanga released his mixtape “The Calm Before the Storm”[1]. In the same year, Nkanga and Delø released a collaborative 8-track mixtape "The Art of Rap" on 15 June 2018[3]. In 2019, Nkanga released "Redemption" with guest appearances from Mick Jenkins, theMIND, Blaqbonez, Asriel and Victor Baba[4]. This project brought out his hit track "Know You Better".

On the 23 February, 2020, he released a music video for Know You Better, directed by German Videographer, Ivan Boljat. In 2022, Nkanga released Truth featuring AcebergTM. In the following year, he released hit single "T-House Basement' featuring PsychoYP[5]. On the 24th April 2023, T House Basement debuted on BBC Radio 1Xtra.[6]

Artistry

Jason Nkanga is known for fusing Hip hop to create his musical element. He has always stuck with his real name as his stage name since the start of his career. Jason Nkanga cited the American rappers J.Cole, Lil Wayne and Eminem as his inspiration while growing up.[1]
