Janus Rasmussen is an Icelandic producer and songwriter from Reykjavik on an international level.
Sound
[edit]Janus Rasmussen's solo work is best understood as a distillation of his many different collaborations to date. Hailing from the Faroe Islands, the artist has spent the last ten years working, performing and innovating with other artists from a wide variety of musical genres. In the process, he has gained a wealth of experience and inspiration that is now clearly audible in his own melodic, experimental electronic music. On his Nordic Music Council Prize-nominated debut album Vín, Janus honed his minimal techno skills into an hour-long exploration of acoustic textures and electronic sound design that ebbs and flows like a well-crafted DJ set. On his latest work, he combines the dancefloor rhythms and dark sonic palette of Vín with his own vocals and a new focus on songwriting. Although none of the individual elements are new to Janus, the new combination and juxtaposition sounds like a purposeful statement of intent that goes against the mainstream of electronic dance music.
Projects
[edit]Having been part of the Icelandic electro-pop band Bloodgroup, he currently performs alongside Ólafur Arnalds as one half of Kiasmos. The duo's recordings have received worldwide acclaim and they have been invited to perform at many of the world's major festivals. Janus also regularly collaborates with other members of Reykjavik's growing music scene, working as a producer, songwriter, musician and mixer.
