Born in Viersen, Germany Metternich lived in Mönchengladbach, Germany for his childhood before moving to Munich to study music management.[1] He rose to fame in 2021 with his debut EP "XVIII", which amassed over 30 million digital plays on various streaming platforms.[2]

Early Life
[edit]Jan Metternich began his musical journey at the age of six when he started playing the guitar. By the age of eleven, he uploaded his first cover video to YouTube, continuing to share his music on the platform until he turned sixteen. During this period, he also honed his skills in songwriting and music production, creating his first original compositions.[1] He began his live musical journey during his early teenage years, performing live on the streets of Mönchengladbach, where he sang and played the guitar.[3]
Career
[edit]Jan Metternich rose to popularity with the release of his single "Dead End" in January 2021, which has since garnered over 10 million digital plays on streaming platforms. Accumulating more than 75 million streams on Spotify, Metternich has established a significant presence in the music industry.[2] His debut EP, "XVIII," was released on October 1, 2021, featuring five tracks, including the hit "Dead End".[2] Metternich's highly anticipated debut album, Broken Symphonies, released on July 26, 2024, has garnered widespread acclaim, amassing over 25 million streams within months of its launch.[4] In May 2025, Jan Metternich is set to embark on his first Europe tour, performing in major cities such as London, Amsterdam, and Berlin.[5][6][7][8][9]

[edit]Growing up, Metternich listened to Ed Sheeran, AC/DC and Metallica. As he started making his own music, he began listening to Juice Wrld and German Trap Music.[10][1]
