Draft:James W. Mehaffy

James W. Mehaffy (YEAR – November 20, 1926) was an Arkansas attorney. He was elected to the Supreme Court of Arkansas in 1926, for a term beginning in 1927, but was killed in a car accident before assuming office.^[1]

Mehaffy was a noted attorney, and prevailed over a field of nine candidates for the Democratic Democratic nomination for the seat, and ran unopposed in the general election.^[1]

Mehaffy died when he apparently lost control of the roadster he was driving and crashed into a telegraph pole. He was alone in the vehicle.^[1]

Following his death, his father, also a well-known attorney, was named to the seat to which the son had been elected,^[2] serving thereafter for sixteen years.
