Background on Tylka

[edit]

James Tylka Jr was born on September 14, 1986 in Los Angeles[1] to Jim Tylka Sr and Jeneigh[2]. According to his Facebook page, Tylka graduated in 2004 from Southridge High School in Beaverton, Oregon. He then went on to be an unpaid police cadet from 2004 to 2006 for the Beaverton department[3].

In 2008, Tylka married his ex-wife Sabrina. They had a son together around 2009. James and Sabrina separated and divorced in 2011. Sabrina had said, "He is irrational, impulsive, aggressive, and constantly threatening me."[4] She had filed for sole custody of their son just a few years later, but was denied. She stated that the boy was in "immediate danger."

Around mid 2013, Tylka met Katelyn Armand, a coworker. The couple soon fell in love, and by December 2014, they were married. According to another post found on Tylka's Facebook account. Armand was expecting a baby around early 2015, Harlow Wren Tylka. Sadly, the baby was miscarried. It is confirmed that they had a child, Brynn, in January of 2016. Sometime after the child's birth, they went through a separation. But, they remained in contact for the sake of their daughter and Tylka's young son.

Christmas Day Shooting

[edit]

Around 10:00 PM, on the 25th of December, 2016. James Tylka was spending time with his family on Christmas. According to sources, Tylka was living with his mother Jeneigh[2] and his step-father, Harold Bettis. James' 7 year old son was there and Kate Armand was expected to drop off 11 month old Brynn. At 10:15 PM, authorities were called because of gunshots heard in a King City cul-de-sac.

James Tylka, the suspect, was spotted driving away. The police chased him through Highway 99W and halted at a dead end on Southwest Gimm Lane south of Sherwood.[3] Tylka engaged in pursuit with officer Nic Cederberg, which resulted in the officer being shot 11 times by Tylka. According to law enforcement on the scene, multiple officers rushed to the area to help the fallen officer. They looked for Tylka as Cederberg fought for his life, and, James was eventually spotted hiding in some bushes. They shot at Tylka multiple times, but, his autopsy reported he died to a self inflicted shot.
