From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James Scott was one of the first ever recipients of the George Medal which was established on September 24, 1940, primarily to recognise acts of great bravery by civilians. James won the award for his bravery on the night of October 2, 1941, when his home town of South Shields was the target, by a mistake of navigation, of a large air raid by bombers of the German Luftwaffe.
