James Olin Miller, Jr. was born in Vidalia, Ga (October 12, 1950) and raised in Soperton, Ga. After a long and productive career in telecommunications and information systems security he retired in Dallas, TX in 2016.

Early Life

James was a 1969 graduate of Treutlen High School. James was a member of the Future Farmers of America and President of the Athletic Club. In addition, he was the Senior Class Vice President of his class and finished in top third of his class. He also played the lead role in the senior play "Finders Creepers".

James was chosen for “Outstanding High School accomplishments” and was included in a special publication of high school students that carried his name and resume along with other senior class standouts in the United States.

A standout athlete who was a 3xAll-Ste track and field athlete winning the state championships in three events his senior year. He also excelled in high school football achieving All-Middle Georgia Honorable Mention and captaining both the football team and track and field teams. He was approached by coaches from Georgia Tech, West Georgia and Furman in track and field and Mississippi College and Arkansas State University in football related to college athletic scholarships. James chose not to continue his athletic career and began his long journey in telecommunications and information technology.

Education

James attended Swainsboro Area Technical College studying electronics and matriculating to East Georgia College. He then took a Master of Science Leadership from Richard D. Irwin School of Management at The American College in 1993 and a Master of Science in Management Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas in 1999. James finished both master degrees programs with perfect 4.0 GPAs.

Career

James joined Southern Bell in Atlanta, GA in 1969 where he was a subscriber installer-repairman. James then moved to Plant where he began initially as a subscriber installer repairman and subsequently transitioned to a central office equipment technician. Moving to United Technologies Communications in Atlanta, GA in 1979 as a project manager where he subsequently transferred to Memphis, TN and assigned to a large special account and finally transferred to Dallas, TX as an Operations Manager. James then joined in 1985 Nortel Networks where he performed various engineering and operation management roles. His last job title was that of Senior Director of Project Management. James moved on to EDS in 2003 where he was a project leader over information security projects. James then joined Citibank in 2007 as a Vice President of the Global Information Security Project Office. In 2013, Jim joined Hewlett Packard as an information systems security consultant. After an extensive and rewarding career, Jim retired in 2016.
