Early life and education
[edit]James Meyer was born to Reverend John Meyer and Irma Meyer in Cocoa Beach, Florida on July 17, 1963. He grew up in the Florida Keys and graduated from Marathon Middle High School in 1981. Later, Meyer went to Arizona State University, where he graduated in 1986.[3] He then went on to the University of Miami School of Law, graduating in 1989.[4]
Career
[edit]Meyer started his legal career in 1989 at Paul, Landy, Bailey & Harper, a law firm based in Miami.[5] With guidance from Burton Landy and George Harper, Meyer developed expertise in Latin American legal matters, which contributed to his role in founding L2b Aviation, a referral network for aviation law firms.[2] Later, he was appointed as the director of L2b Aviation in 2017.[6]
In 1997, Meyer relocated to Caracas, Venezuela, to open and manage the first non-US office for the prominent Miami law firm Steel Hector & Davis.[7] After returning to Miami, he co-founded Harper Meyer with his mentor George Harper in 2002, focusing on international private wealth clients and local institutional representation.[8] Meyer has also served as General Counsel and Vice President of Pollo Campero USA, as well as General Counsel to several celebrity chefs, athletes, and performers.[9][10]
Meyer gained recognition as an expert in international law and cross-border aviation through his involvement in the US-Cuba rapprochement in the mid-2010s. He led delegations of US attorneys to Havana, where he interacted with Cuban lawyers and government officials.[11]
