James H. Tabibian, MD, PhD, FACP, FASGE, FACG, AGAF is a physician, researcher, author, and consultant.[1][2] Since 2023, he has been the Medical Director of the Advanced Gastroenterology Center at Adventist Health Glendale, where he specializes in Interventional Endoscopy. Tabibian has over 200 peer-reviewed, published articles indexed in PubMed, including highly-cited articles in leading journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Endoscopy, World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, Expert Review of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, and PLOS Medicine.[3][4] In addition, he authored Digestive Problems Solved: A Patient’s Guide to Expert Insights and Solutions, the Inaugural Editor of Diagnosis and Management of Cholangiocarcinoma: A Multidisciplinary Approach, and a co-author of numerous book chapters. Moreover, he has served on the Editorial board of several prestigious journals and as a committee member for national professional societies. He consults nationally and internationally in the health care and biotechnology sectors and is an expert medical reviewer in Gastroenterology for the Medical Board of California.
Tabibian has experience in and for years has taught how to perform endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and endoscopic stenting, among other advanced procedures.[1][2][5][6][7]
Education and training
[edit]Tabibian obtained his undergraduate and medical degree in California, where he grew up, namely with a bachelor's in International Relations from University of California, Davis followed by an MD with Alpha Omega Alpha honors from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He thereafter completed training at the nation's leading hospitals, including Internal Medicine Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Gastroenterology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic Rochester, a PhD through Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Following the completion of his training, he was recruited to join the faculty of UC Davis Medical Center in 2017. After his time herein, he joined the faculty of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, serving as the Director of Endoscopy at Olive View–UCLA Medical Center for six years, and during which time he was promoted to Health Sciences Clinical Professor in 2023.[8][9] He remains active in teaching and training medical students and residents who rotate with him at Adventist Health Glendale.

[edit]Tabibian has been widely quoted in the media for his thought leadership and professional opinion on a wide variety of topics related to digestive health and gastrointestinal disease.[10][11][12] He has been invited to deliver Grand rounds, continuing medical education, and research presentations around the world.[13]
