J.D.R. Hawkins (born June 9, 1959) is an American author known for her historical novels set during the American Civil War. She is known for her "Renegade Series," which includes books such as A Beautiful Glittering Lie and A Rebel Among Us. Hawkins is a recipient of the John Esten Cooke Fiction Award and the B.R.A.G. Early Life and Education
[edit]Hawkins was born in Sioux City, Iowa. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Iowa State University.[2]
Career
[edit]Hawkins began her writing career by crafting short stories, articles, and children's books before moving into full-length novels.[3] She focuses primarily on the Civil War era, writing from a Southern perspective. Her "Renegade Series" comprises four novels that center on the experiences of a family from northern Alabama during the war. These books include A Beautiful Glittering Lie, A Beckoning Hellfire, A Rebel Among Us, and Double-Edged Sword. Several of these works have won multiple awards, including the John Esten Cooke Fiction Award and the B.R.A.G. Medallion.[4][5][6][7]
