Irina Olegovna Abramova (born September 16, 1962) is a Russian economist, member of the Presidium of Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Institute for African Studies of the RAS, Corresponding Member of the RAS, Doctor of Economics, Professor.[citation needed]
Biography
[edit]Born September 16, 1962.
In 1984, she graduated with honors from the Arabic section of the socio-economic faculty of the Institute of Asian and African Countries at Moscow State University.
In 1987, defended her candidate’s dissertation on "Socio-economic Problems of Urbanization in ARE".
From 1994 to 1997 she was a guest lecturer at the universities of Tübingen, Bochum, Heidelberg (Germany) and the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland).
In 2011, defended her doctoral dissertation "Africa’s Resource Potential in the World Economy of the XXI Century (Endogenous Determinants of African Countries' Participation in the New Economic Model of the World)".
In 2015, she was appointed director of the Institute for African Studies of the RAS.
On October 28, 2016, she was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences for the Department of Global Problems and International Relations; in 2017, was elected a member of the Presidium of the RAS. Also she is a member of the Higher Certification Commission of the Russian Federation.
Scientific and social activities

In 2004 and 2005, participated in conferences and seminars in Russia and abroad within the framework of the International Program on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism as an expert of the Council of Europe.
In 2004, she was the speaker at the International Symposium on Combating Economic Crime, held annually in Cambridge, UK. Cambridge (United Kingdom).
In cooperation with scientists from Russia and foreign countries in 2005—2011 she organized and conducted field research in a number of European and African countries on the problems of population and international labor migration.
Member of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on African problems. Participant of more than 80 international conferences and seminars held in Russia and abroad.
Member of the editorial board of the scientific journal "Asia & Africa Today".
Author of more than 110 scientific works published in Russia and abroad, including 8 monographs.
