Early life and education

[edit]

Goshen was born at 1975 and grew up in the southern Israeli city Be'er-Sheva. She did not graduate high school, and at age 18 was drafted to the IDF. She was discharged as a lieutenant in 1996 and started her undergraduate degree in Psychology at The Hebrew University in 1997. During her first weeks there she started working in Prof Raz Yirmiya's laboratory, where she was first drawn to experimental neuroscience, and later finished her PhD. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts, Summa cum laude, in 2000, Goshen studied for a Master of Science in Neurobiology at the Hadassah Medical School of The Hebrew University, and graduated Summa cum laude in 2002. She then pursued a dual PhD in Neurobiology and Psychology under the mentorship of Prof Raz Yirmiya (Dept. of Psychology) and Prof Tamir Ben-Hur (Dept. of Neurobiology). Her graduate work focused on the role of immune proteins in cognition and emotion. Goshen completed her PhD in 2007.
