Ibrahim Adepoju Adeyanju is a Nigerian academic and ICT professional who serves as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of Galaxy Backbone Limited[1], a government-owned ICT company, under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy (FMCIDE). He is known for his contributions to Nigeria's digital transformation, particularly in the public sector.

Education and Early Career

Adeyanju earned a First Class Honors degree in Computer Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomosho, Nigeria. He later pursued a Master's degree in Computing Information Engineering and a PhD in Computing from Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen, United Kingdom, specialising in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Natural Language Processing (NLP). His doctoral research focused on AI and machine learning applications. Following his PhD, Adeyanju completed a postdoctoral fellowship at RGU, where he worked on an information retrieval project sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) in the UK.

Academic Career

In 2012, Adeyanju returned to Nigeria to join the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) as a Professor of Intelligent Systems[2][3]. During his tenure, he also served as the Director of Quality Assurance[4], contributing to the university's efforts to enhance academic standards.

Leadership at Galaxy Backbone

Adeyanju joined Galaxy Backbone Limited[1] in April 2023, following his appointment as the Executive Director of Digital Exploration and Technical Services[5]. In February 2024, he was appointed Managing Director/CEO[6] by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Under his leadership, Galaxy Backbone has focused on expanding Nigeria’s ICT infrastructure, managing critical ICT infrastructure across Nigeria, including over 5000 km of fiber backbone[7] and data centers certified at Tier III[8] and Tier IV[9] levels. The organisation also oversees a National Shared Services Centre[10] and a 24-hour Cybersecurity Operations Centre[11], both designated as Critical National Assets.

Contributions to Nigeria's Digital Transformation

As the head of Galaxy Backbone[1], Adeyanju has focused on expanding the country's ICT infrastructure[12] and fostering innovation within the public sector[13]. His initiatives emphasise capacity building, cloud computing[14][15], and the adoption of AI-driven solutions.
