History
[edit]Helltrench was created on the 5th of March 2023, under the name of HellCirkus in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by Nikolai and Laureana Trinchero with Nikolai on vocals and Laurie on drums, on the same day Nikolai would also take on duties as the guitarist of the band, thus creating their first official lineup. Helltrench was originally called HellCirkus but changed it’s name due to it sounding too similar to another band’s name, it was then renamed to Forest of Hell due to Rio’s nature and violence, however the name was too long and eventually the band settled for the name Helltrench.[3]
Isolation and inactivity (2023)
[edit]The band recorded Isolation in 2023, making it their first song, during this time bassist Zeca Mattos would briefly join the band after hearing it[3], he would stay with the band for a couple of months, however he did not play with Helltrench, and did not write anything. During this time the band did not perform any shows however they started working on songs that would later be featured on their debut album Freedom is Slavery.
Freedom is Slavery, War and resurgence (2023-present)
[edit]The album's cycle started in June 2023, sampler/backing vocalist Rafael Miranda would join the band in May 2023 after being invited by Nikolai, he stayed with those roles until April 2024 being disposed of sampling duties as it no longer fit the band's sound, due to schedule difficulties he temporarily parted ways with the band. It would also be during this period that after unsuccessful attempts of finding a bass player, Nikolai started playing bass in studio.[3] On May 5th 2024, the band would start recording the album with the original lineup. September 28th 2024 would mark Helltrench's first show, featuring bassist Zeca Mattos playing the entire set with them, however he only returned to play that show. Rafael Miranda was who recorded the show.
Influences
[edit]The band cites Slipknot, Sepultura, Angra, The Offspring, Millencolin, Iron Maiden, Machine Head, Megadeth, MxPx and Helloween as notable influences.[4]
