Heather Stainbrook (born March 14, 2001) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for the Washington Spirit of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She played college soccer for the Utah Valley Wolverines, for which she is the all-time top scorer.

Early life and college career

[edit]

Stainbrook grew up in South Jordan, Utah, and attended Alta High School in Sandy. She helped lead her high school team to regional titles and state quarterfinals in her only two years with the team as a freshman and sophomore, twice earning all-state honors.[1]

Utah Valley Wolverines

[edit]

Stainbrook was a five-year starter for the Utah Valley Wolverines, scoring 40 goals and adding 25 assists in 102 games from 2019 to 2023. She left Utah Valley as the all-time top scorer in program history.[1]

Club career

[edit]

Washington Spirit

[edit]

Stainbrook went undrafted in the 2024 NWSL Draft and was invited to spend the preseason training with the Washington Spirit, which signed her to a three-year contract on March 11.[2] She made her professional debut as a late substitute against the Chicago Red Stars on May 3, becoming the first Utah Valley player to appear in the NWSL.[3] She entered the Spirit's starting lineup late in the year after Andi Sullivan's season-ending injury. She scored her first professional goal on her second start to open a 2–0 win over the Chicago Red Stars on October 20.[4]
