Early Life: Hariwansh Narayan Singh (born 18 December 1920) was a great freedom fighter and Indian politician. He was a former 3 time Member of legislative assembly from Raghopur vidhansabha constituency , a former chairman of 19 different board and corporations of bihar and former director of all 15 board and corporations of bihar e.g. Bihar Khadi Board, Transport department, Biscouman etc. During his student days, he came in contact with Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Anugrah Narayan Singh and Dr. Shri Krishna Singh and joined the country's freedom movement. For which he had to undergo rigorous imprisonment twice for four months and nine months. In which once he was also given a cell punishment. In which he was kept in a room by tying his body on ice. Every three hours he was given 20 lashes on his back. When his back started bleeding, salt was rubbed on it and he was locked in the dark room again. The mark of which remained in the form of a black spot on half of his back till the last days of his life.

Early life and education Hariwansh Narayan Singh was eldest son of Shree vasudev Narayan singh and was born on December 18, 1920, in Chechar village, situated in Biddupur Block district Vaishali of Bihar. He started his education at a local middle school before moving to Patna. After that he completed his graduation from B N collegiate Patna and Masters in Law from Patna Law College.

Personal life and family:

Hariwansh Babu married Sumitra Devi, in an arranged marriage, and they went on to have four sons. • Eldest son: PadmaNabh Narayan singh ‘Bhaskar’ • 2nd son: Kamalnabh narayan singh • 3rd son: Achyut narayan singh ‘keshri’ • 4th son: Trayambak Narayan Singh ‘Gopal’ - married to Seema Devi.

Political career:

Started practicing law in Hajipur Court in 1950 but became MLA from Raghopur in the first assembly elections of independent India in 1952. he opposed the policies of the Congress and the principles of Pandit Nehru and he was particularly unhappy. After coming in contact with Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he got influenced by the policy and principles of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and joined the party. He became the state vice president of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh party and was elected MLA for the third time in 1967.

Apart from the third time member of legislative assembly, he was also the chairman of all the 19 boards and corporations of Bihar, including Bihar Rajya Excise Board, Bihar Rajya Transport Nigam, Bihar Rajya Biscouman and Bihar Rajya Khadi Gramudyog. Apart from this, he was director and member of all the other 15 boards. During his student days, he played a major role in the establishment of dozens of schools and colleges in the district, which also included rn college. For the convenience of the local residents, immediately after becoming MLA, he gave block status to Raghopur and Biddupur.
