Hadassa Ngamba (born 1993) is a visual artist from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Ngamba works in Lubumbashi, DRC and Saint-Gilles, Belgium. Hadassa Ngamba's artwork includes photography, performance, paintings, drawings, video, and installation.[1] Hadassa Ngamba is known for her artistic commentary on colonialism, capitalism, and the extraction of raw materials from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.[2]

Biography

Hadassa Ngamba was born in Kizu in 1993, a city in the Kongo Central province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She grew up in Boma and Lubumbashi. She was born to a working class mother and her father left the family in her early years. Ngamba experienced domestic abuse in her childhood. She cites her experiences with violence as motivation to leave Kizu and move to Lubumbashi to study at the earliest opportunity.[3] Ngamba studied at the Faculty of Criminology at the University of Lubumbashi.[4]

Hadassa Ngamba is the Prize winner of the 2019 Lubumbashi session of the Laurent Moonens Award and her work was completed with the support of the MOONENS Foundation.[4]
