The Global Capacity Building Coalition (GCBC) is a global initiative designed to enhance the ability of financial institutions & professionals in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDE) to invest in sustainable projects by collaborating with the leading climate finance organizations. Its main objective is to achieve the finance targets set by the UN and the G20. [4]

History

The Global Capacity Building Coalition was launched by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions Michael Bloomberg at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference in December 2023, with the support of Bloomberg Philanthropies.[5]

In September 2024, Chair of the GCBC Mary Schapiro announced the launch of a beta version of a new digital platform which is designed to increase the availability of climate finance capacity building resources and programs to support the climate transition around the world.[6][7]

The GCBC was established with 19 founding members. currently, it encompasses more than 50 organizations as of September 2024.[8]
