Draft:Ghana International Bank

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ghana International Bank (abbreviated as GHIB) is a UK-based financial institution established in 1998, following the incorporation of the Ghana Commercial Bank's London branch.[1] It was established to facilitate trade and financial transactions between Africa and Europe. The Bank is headquartered at 67 Cheapside, 1st Floor, City of London, EC2V 6AZ, United Kingdom. [2] In Ghana, GHIB's representative office is located at 17 Akosombo Street, Airport Residential Area, Accra.[3]

History

[edit]

The bank traces its origins to 1959, when the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) opened a branch in London shortly after Ghana gained independence. This branch was set up to support Ghana's international trade activities and facilitate financial transactions between the country and global markets.[4]

In 1998, the branch was incorporated as Ghana International Bank, gaining autonomy while maintaining its Ghanaian ownership structure. This transformation allowed GHIB to broaden its service offerings to include trade finance, correspondent banking, and treasury operations.[5]
