History & Timeline
[edit]Known as Genting Amusement & Recreational Park or Genting A&R Park originally. The theme park opened from 1978 to 2013 (the exact opening date is unknown).
When it opened in 1978, it consisted of Kayaking, Children's Swinger and a small Ferris Wheel. It also has a Tea House.
During the 1980s, a few attractions were added including Antique Cars, Trains, Jet Plane, Cyclone and Merry-Go-Round.
Cyclone rollercoaster was opened in 1983 (Source rollercoaster database).
The outdoor section is divided into Frontierland, Gentingland and Magic Mountain.
1992, the indoor theme park opened on the lower ground floor of Genting Hotel (now Genting Grand).
Rides include Interactive Laser Dark Ride, Adult Bumper Car, Space Odyssey 2020, etc.
New attractions such as the Sungai Rejang Flume Ride, Pirate Train, Showboat Marine Fantasy, Matahari Ferris Wheel and more were added.
The outdoor portion of the park has undergone significant transformation throughout 1970-1990.
In 1998, The 6,000-seat Arena of Stars was completed.
The Arena is located adjacent to the main entrance of the outdoor theme park.
At the same time, rides from Frontierland such as Astro Fighter and Matahari are shifted to Gentingland to make way for the First World Hotel development.
In 1999, a new water park 'Genting Splash' and 'Double Deck Carousel' were opened.
In 2000, Spinner (swinging ride) was opened.
In 2001, the First World Plaza was completed and rides were moved from the old indoor section to the First World Plaza. The manoeuvre of the rides was completed in 2004.
As of 2004, Vision City: Video Games Park replaced a large portion of the LG floor of Genting Hotel. Leaving behind kiddie rides, Merry Go Round & Safari Jeep Adventure.
