Draft:Fu's method

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fu's method is a Mathematical calculation method that uses to calculate the molecular formula of a compound with given mass and percentage by mass of different atoms.

History

[edit]

Fu's method is named by a Chemist, Mr Fu, who contributed a lot to a college. He proposed that the number of moles of all the atom can be calculated by the multiplication of total mass of reactant and the molar mass of that atom to be calculated. As this method is much faster than calculating the empricial formula before calculating the molecular formula, the college starts to use this method and name it as “Fu's method”.

Usage

[edit]

no. of mole of C : no. of mole of H : no. of mole of O

= (72×50%÷12) : (72×10%÷1) : (72×40%÷16)

= 3 : 7.2 : 1.8

= 4 : 12 : 3
