Footsoldier were a punk-Oi band from Geelong, Australia, that were active from 2003 until 2014. They played regular shows in Geelong and Melbourne, also touring to Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. They released a self-titled, self-distributed CD in 2010. Their music was an Oi influenced punk style, with the main lyrical content been of social commentary.
Origins
[edit]Footsoldier was formed by childhood friends: Josh Wilkins, Nick Mackinlay and Clint 'Cod' Howarth. The three had played in the punk band 'Human Greed' during the 1990's. The band originally performed and recorded under the name 'Havoc', with Jeremy Baron playing drums. Havoc released a self-distributed CD with the title 'three pints please'. Mid 2000's saw Jeremy Baron departing the band.
Footsoldier
[edit]The band took this opportunity to write all new material and changed their name to Footsoldier. The first year performing under the name Footsoldier saw two different drummers playing with the band. After this time Garon Oldham joined the band playing drums and becoming a permanent fixture. The band played regularly in Geelong and Melbourne[1], which at the time had a thriving punk and Oi music scene. They released a self-titled, self-distributed CD in 2010.[2][3] After the release of their CD the band travelled interstate playing in Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. During their time performing they supported international touring acts such as Beerzone,[4] The Vibrators and Hard Skin. They also performed at the popular music festival 'Pugs Day Out' in Sydney on two occasions.[5] Garon left the band for personal reasons in 2014. Footsoldier only played three more shows after Garon's departure, using a fill in drummer. They disbanded in late 2014.
