Fernando Tavera was a Dominican militant who was a hero of the Battle of Fuente del Rodeo. He later participated alongside Francisco del Rosario Sánchez in an expedition into the Dominican Republic in protest against the annexation to Spain.
Life
[edit]A native of Neyba, little is known about his early life. He was wounded in the Battle of Fuente del Rodeo, when he fought against the Haitians in the Dominican War of Independence. In 1861 he lived in Haiti, there he joined the expedition led by generals Francisco del Rosario Sánchez and José María Cabral. He commanded the column that entered through Neyba, with the task of occupying that town and he occupied it, but faced with the setbacks that determined the failure of the company, he retired to Haitian territory to stay in Haiti for the rest of his life.[1]
