Feng Yuan is a Chinese women's rights activist. She is a commonly cited commentator on the status of women in China.

Activism

Feng began her career as a journalist.[1] She is a co-founder of Media Monitor for Women Network, an organization which supports women journalists. She is also the co-founder of Beijing-based non-profit Equality, which focuses on women's rights and gender equality.[2][3][4]

In 1995, Feng attended the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing.[5]

In 1998, she co-founded the Anti–Domestic Violence Network, where she worked on raising awareness of domestic violence. In 2003, the organization proposed anti-domestic abuse law.[1]

Feng has spoken to news outlets about issues facing Chinese women, such as domestic abuse,[6][7][8] government censorship of activists,[9] misogynistic and patriarchal atittutdes,[10][11] objectification and sexualization,[12] policing of women's sexuality,[13] political representation,[14] reproductive rights,[5][15] sexism at work,[16] and sexist dress codes.[17] She has also spoken on male survivors of domestic violence,[18] and how misogyny in China impacts non-Chinese women online.[19]
