The European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS) is a european scientific organization founded in 1993. Its mission is the fostering of cooperation among universities, research centers, and industrial partners, for the development of numerical methods for scientific computing in engineering and applied sciences. ECCOMAS members span 23 European associations focused on computational methods in applied sciences. The ECCOMAS Congress takes place every 2 years, while thematic conferences are organized by its members in the gap year (in 2023 there were 30 thematic conferences).
Prizes
[edit]ECCOMAS bestows 3 medals [1], 2 awards for young scientists [2], and 2 prizes for PhD thesis [3]:
- Ritz-Galerkin medal - It is the most prestigious prize awarded by ECCOMAS, bestowed every 4 years onto researchers who have made outstanding and sustained contributions in the field of computational methods in applied sciences over periods representing substantial portions of their professional careers.
- Euler medal - It is bestowed every 2 years to researchers who have made outstanding and sustained contributions to the area of computational solid and structural mechanics, in terms of mathematical theory and numerical methods.
- Prandtl medal - It is bestowed every 2 years to researchers who have made outstanding and sustained contributions to the area of computational fluid dynamics, in terms of mathematical theory and numerical methods.
- Olgierd Cecil Zienkiewicz young investigator award - It is bestowed every 2 years to young researchers (i.e. not more than 40 years old) who have made outstanding contributions in the field of computational engineering sciences.
- Jacques-Louis Lions young investigator award - It is bestowed every 2 years to young researchers (i.e. not more than 40 years old) who have made outstanding contributions in the field of numerical analysis.
- PhD awards - It is bestowed every year to 2 PhD graduates who presented their thesis in the current year. Everyone fitting the requirements can submit an application: each ECCOMAS member association selects 1 of these applications to present as an official candidate for the award.
