Emilia Harcourt is a fictional character in media published by DC Comics. First created in 2016 as a minor supporting character to the Suicide Squad in the comics, Harcourt was characterized as a Russian NSA agent working for Amanda Waller until she was killed off in Suicide Squad #17, which was published in 2017. The character did not gain prominence in mainstream pop culture until she was featured as a major character in the film The Suicide Squad, set in the DC Extended Universe, and the Max streaming series Peacemaker, which was originally set in the DCEU but will be moved to the upcoming DC Universe franchise. Harcourt was subsequently revived in the comics due to her popularity with fans.[1] In live action, Harcourt has been portrayed by Jennifer Holland.

Emilia Harcourt first appeared in comics stories for the Suicide Squad. As a minor character created by Rob Williams and Jim Lee, she had a role as an agent of the NSA sent to monitor A.R.G.U.S. before she was revealed to be a double-agent for a Russian terrorist organization and killed off once her arc was completed.[2]

Jennifer Holland, who portrayed Harcourt in the DC Extended Universe starting with the film The Suicide Squad, explained that her character was originally an unnamed "comms hub tech" who became more important as Holland's husband and the film's writer and director James Gunn fleshed out the story. As Holland recalls, Gunn reached a point in which "he was like, 'I'm gonna give her a name from the comics so that when the fans watch the credits they go, oh my gosh, that was Emilia Harcourt! And they have something to be excited about, and it's a little bit of an Easter egg.'" As the Peacemaker series materialized, Harcourt became a major character and was given her comics-accurate depiction as an "endearingly violent individual" and an agent for A.R.G.U.S. who works with Amanda Waller and the Suicide Squad.[3]

Following the emergence of Harcourt as a "fan favorite" character as a result of her inclusion in DCEU media, the character was brought back in the comics.[1]
