Biography
[edit]Edward Butler began his music career after attending University of Brighton and relocating to London in 2010. He gained recognition as part of the production duo Billon alongside Robbie Lamond.[1] The pair signed with Sony Music Publishing in 2012, producing tracks such as “Special” featuring Maxine Ashley and co-written with MNEK[2], and "Slave to the Vibe," which received airplay and was included in the film Bridget Jones’s Baby.[3]
Career
[edit]2010–2015: Formation of Billon
[edit]Billon embarked on two North American tours and performed at several major venues and festivals, including The The Warehouse Project, Fabric_(club), the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival, Beyond Wonderland, Reading and Leeds Festivals, and Ministry of Sound. During this period, they collaborated with Grammy-winning artist Todd Edwards on singles such as “Is it Wrong” and “Don’t Be Givin’ Up.”[4]
2016–2018: Collaborations and Solo Projects
[edit]After Lamond’s departure from Billon, Butler continued to produce music and released tracks under his name. In 2018, he collaborated with Todd Edwards, and his live performance at the Jazz Cafe in London marked a significant milestone. During this period, Butler also presented radio shows on Kiss FM and Rinse FM.
2020–Present: Solo Work and Austin Tate
[edit]In 2020, Butler released “They Know” under the moniker Ed Butler. The track, an instrumental techno piece, was debuted at Glastonbury Festival by Patrick Topping and later named Pete Tong’s “Essential New Tune” on BBC Radio 1[5] . Butler also launched the collaborative project Austin Tate with Lee Paul Williams and Nadeem Daya, fusing R&B vocals with electronic production. In 2022, Austin Tate signed with Atlantic Records and released “Late Night Body Language (LNBL)” featuring Just Charlii.[6]
