The Latin Epiriote Dictionary (Latin: Dictionarium Latino-Epiroticum) is among the earliest known dictionaries of the Albanian language.[1] It was compiled by Frang Bardhi, an Albanian Catholic bishop, lexicographer, and writer, and was published in 1635.
The Latin Epiriote Dictionary consists of Latin definitions for Albanian words, providing a valuable resource for scholars and linguists interested in the early development of the Albanian language. The dictionary covers a wide range of words, including everyday life, religion, and culture.
Frang Bardhi's Latin Epiriote Dictionary played a critical role in preserving and standardizing the Albanian language during a time when it faced challenges from foreign influences. By providing Latin definitions for Albanian words, the dictionary helped to establish a written form of the language and contributed to its cultural and linguistic identity.
The Latin Epiriote Dictionary remains an important historical document in the study of the Albanian language (Albanology) and its development.
