The dehydration gun is featured in the 2010 animated film Megamind. The gun was created by the main protagonist Megamind, who uses this weapon to disable his enemies.
The dehydration gun has the ability to turn any matter (living and inanimate) into small, blue cubes. If a living being is shot by the dehydration gun, they do not die when transformed into a cube but rather stay dormant until the effect is reversed. The effect is easily reversed by applying water to the cube, which will return the matter back into its previous form.
The gun later went on to feature in the spin-off movie Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate, which saw the dehydration gun gain popularity on the internet through a video created by Schaffrillas Productions, a popular youtuber, in which he pointed out the obvious when Megamind could have easily disabled the Doom Syndicate if he used the dehydration gun on the team members, like he did to another smaller group of villains, but if done so would have rendered the spin-off movie obsolete due to the lack of any threat. Schaffrillas' continued annoyance with the lack of common sense when referring to the writing of the movie led to the quote "shoot them with the dehydration gun" when rhetorically asking how Megamind could possibly stop the doom syndicate, the obvious anger portrayed through his shouting spawned a small variety of internet memes when discussing this film, even leading to the creation of this Wikipedia page.
