David Joseph Maloney is an American personal injury attorney and talk show host. He is best known for his Super Bowl commercials as the managing partner and "face" of the firm Maloney-Lyons, LLC, which operates in Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, and Georgia. His commercials often include his slogan, "I will personally return your call."
Early life and eduction
[edit]Maloney grew up in Woodstock, NY, where in middle school he was first introduced to Harper Lee's famous novel, "To Kill A Mockingbird", in which the character of the lawyer Atticus Finch made a lasting impression.[1]
Upon graduation from high school, Maloney attended Samford University's Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, AL.
Career
[edit]In his law career, Maloney one of the most successful and recognizable personal injury attorneys on the central Gulf Coast. He grew his profile through aggressive and humorous advertising, where he often parodied himself and the public persona of lawyers.[2][3][4] His commercial "Godfather of Personal Injury" aired in local markets during Super Bowl 2020 and gained national notoriety for the creativity and shot-for-shot accuracy of the parody.[5][6][7][8]
He is the creator, host, and executive producer of the TV show and podcast, The Weekly Show with David J. Maloney, having interviewed luminaries across the music and film spectrum.[9][10]
Maloney is founding member of two charities: the Lodestar Children's Home in India, an orphanage charity he started to honor his wife and her family, who are Indian,[11] and Caped Crusaders for Kids, a charity based in Mobile, Alabama.[12][11]
He is also part-owner of the Pensacola Ice Flyers hockey team.
Personal life
[edit]Maloney was arrested under suspicion of DUI in 2016 after running commercials against drunk drivers for many years. The case was later dismissed by the Florida State District Attorney's office on the basis Maloney had demonstrated "no signs of impairment."[13] Maloney has since parodied the arrest in his commercial "From Almost Anywhere."[14]
