Dana Vulin is burns survivor, international author, keynote speaker and health practitioner.[1][2]
In 2012, Dana Vulin just 25 at the time was a victim of a violent and unprovoked attack. The attacker stalked Dana Vulin for a number of weeks prior to the attack. The attacker falsely believed Dana was involved with her estranged husband.[3]
In the early hours of February 16, 2012, the female attacker broke into Dana's apartment with an accomplice. The attacker doused Dana with methylated spirits and set her on fire. The attack caused horrendous third degree burns to 64 percent of her body.[4]
The destruction caused to Dana's body and face was disfiguring leaving Dana with deep, partial and full thickness burns.[5] After being rushed to the hospital, Dana was placed in a coma for 10 days. With the aftermath of the attack still expected to impact her life due to requiring reconstructive surgeries to mitigate the damage caused.
The media coverage of the attack and the after effects has been ongoing over the last 13 years.
Trial
[edit]The attacker, who was caught at Perth International Airport after attempting to flee the country was convicted in 2013.[6][7]
The Perth District Court heard the case in 2013, finding the attacker guilty of intent to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and was sentenced[8] to a non-parole period of 15 years with a total of 17 years in prison.[9][10]
In 2015, the attacker lost her appeal bid.[11][12]
Since the attack, Dana has undergone countless operations and procedures including functionality grafts and reconstructive surgeries on top of occupational therapy and daily physical therapy.[13]

The media coverage of the attack and the trial were featured across the world on multiple platforms and continues to stay relevant in the public realm with Dana's devotion to advocating for burns survivors.[16][17]
Dana Vulin made headlines again in July 2018, when Samantha McClymans of the Survivor Foundation was convicted of stealing more than $37,000 from a fund that was set up to help Dana pay for necessary surgeries.[18][19][20]
Awards and honours
[edit]In 2015, Dana was the HBF/Lifeline Funrun Ambassador.
Dana was named The Most Inspiring Woman of The Year in 2018, at the WA Soulful awards.[21]
Television and radio
[edit]In 2014, Dana revealed herself on the program Sunday Night, a Today Tonight exclusive on Channel 7[22], after spending two years and eight months in compression garments. The coverage was seen around the world.[23]
In 2016, Dana was featured on the Japanese TV FORMULATION included as one of the world most amazing people.
In 2017, Dana was featured on the Australian TV show, The Project as the first ever Penguin/Random House author to appear live on the panel. With such high interest, Dana appear back on the show the following year.[24][25]
In 2018, Dana appeared live on the panel on the number one day time talk show in the UK, Loose Women.[26][27]
In 2022, 10 years after the attack, Dana unveiled her body, releasing a transformation video that went viral across the globe. Dana appeared live on the popular Channel 7, The Morning Show to discuss her transformation.[28][29][30]
International author
[edit]In August 2017, Dana released "Worth Fighting For[31]", an account of "A truly remarkable woman's story of survival, strength and triumph in the face of unspeakable horror."[32]
In October 2023, Dana co-authored a book, Curiosity Killed the Nine to Five, a true tale of female entrepreneurship that brings together an anthology of curious businesswomen and their journey to success.[33]
Present
[edit]Dana is the principal practitioner at I am D Aesthetics, whilst performing keynote speaking and MC engagements.
Dana opened I am D Aesthetics in 2021 with the first practice in Wembley, Western Australia. With the success of the first practice, a second practiced followed opening in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia in 2023.[1]
Dana continues to use her forum to advocate and improve lives of burns survivors.[34][35]
