Curtis Family Vineyards
Curtis Family Vineyards is a family-owned winery located just west of McLaren Vale, South Australia was established in 1973.
History
The Curtis family's winemaking legacy dates back to 1499 when Paolo Curtis was appointed by Cardinal de Medici to administer papal lands around Cervaro, Italy, including the establishment of vineyards and olive groves.
Wine Companion
This tradition continued through the centuries, with records indicating the family's presence in Cervaro since 1471. The Curtis Family immigrated to Australia in 1956, and followed the seasonal fruit and vegetable picking work throughout South Australia. In 1960 the Curtis Family purchased a dairy farm near Myponga, South Australia and another near Hindmarsh Tiers, north of Victor Harbor. These dairy farms were operated by the family up until 2003. The Myponga dairy farm was sold due to vineyard expansion in McLaren Vale. The other dairy farm is still operating today. In 1973, the Curtis family established their vineyards in McLaren Vale, bringing their European winemaking heritage to Australia. The vineyard holdings grew to over 450 acres in McLaren Vale. Today, the winery is guided by Claudio Curtis and his children, Mark, Thomas, and Jenna, who continue the family's commitment to producing high-quality wines.
