Crystal J. Huang is a multi-award-winning producer, director, and actress, as well as an international award-winning dancer and photographer. She is widely recognized for her artistic contributions both on screen and behind the camera.
Early life
[edit]Crystal J. Huang, born Huang Jieping, grew up in Shanghai, China.[1] From a young age, she showed a strong passion for performing arts, participating in theater and hosting events. She pursued a bachelor's degree in art in Shanghai before moving to the United States to further her education. After receiving a Microsoft Solution Developer Certificate, she worked in software development for a period before fully dedicating herself to her artistic career.
Career
[edit]Crystal’s acting career took a major leap in 2018 when she played a significant role in the stage adaptation of Amy Tan’s novel The Joy Luck Club.[2] She later moved to Los Angeles to train at the Speiser & Sturges Acting Studio[3] and soon after began taking on roles in film and television. Her most notable roles include performances in Bermuda Island, Amber Road alongside Tom Sizemore, American Comedy with Eric Roberts, and Mistletoe Massacre with Bai Ling. Crystal has also made appearances in TV shows such as Shameless.[4]
In addition to her acting, Crystal's talent spans various artistic forms. She is a competitive ballroom dancer, winning first prize in the 2014 IGB Ballroom Dance competition in San Francisco. She also garnered recognition as a photographer, receiving a merit award in the Prestigious Black and White Magazine Photography competition in 2019.
Crystal has successfully transitioned into film production and direction, with one of her most significant works being the psychological thriller Dark Feathers: Dance of the Geisha, which stars Gilles Marini, Michael Madsen, and Karina Smirnoff, showcasing her martial arts and dance skills. This film earned several accolades at the 24th Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival, further solidifying Huang's reputation in the independent film circuit, including Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Trailer Awards and Best Picture nomination. It is noted that Crystal became the first actress from mainland China to win the Best Actress award in a Hollywood independent film.
She is also the founder of two production companies, Ivy Images and Unchaseable LLC. In her role as a producer and director, she has worked on various upcoming projects such as Staycation and Dinner with Devil and Boarding House..
