Draft:Crush the Cargill

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crush the Cargill is a run on the second Saturday in December every year. Starting in Bethune's Gully, North East Valley, Dunedin, the run follows the track to the summit of Mt Cargill. Upon reaching the summit runners must touch the trig and return to Bethune's Gully via the same route.

Crush the Cargill also offers the world's toughest hundred mile footrace starting on the Friday night. This hundred mile race is so tough, in the race's long and illustrious history only a small handful of participants have actually completed it. Crush the Cargill Hundred Miler has less finishers than the Barkley Marathons!

Participants must qualify to compete in Crush the Cargill. It has the toughest qualification criteria of any major running event in the world. Refer to the website for current qualification criteria. These often include Barkley Marathons sub 40 hour finish, Northburn 100, Mt Difficulty DNF, and Dunedin parkrun.

There are many hundreds of elite athletes who have not completed Crush the Cargill. Grant Guise with a couple of Hardrock 100 finishes has not summited Mt Cargill during the race; Kilian Jornet has been unable to complete; Bronco Billy hasn't finished; and Camille Herron, despite being the world's greatest wiki editor, has not completed Crush the Cargill.

Blue Lake Challenge in smelly Rotorua, is a little sister race to Crush the Cargill. And like all little sisters it's overrated and really annoying. Completing Blue Lake does not qualify participants for Crush the Cargill.
