The coat of arms of Sorel-Tracy was adopted 9 November 2023 after in 2020, the City sent a request to the Canadian Heraldic Authority to design a new coat of arms with the characteristics selected by the heritage committee.[1]As the city of Sorel-Tracy had not been represented by any heraldic symbol since the voluntary merger of Sorel and Tracy in 2000. Symbolism

[edit]

Blue, green and white are emblematic colors of Sorel-Tracy. The wavy lines intertwining represents the junction of the Saint-Lawrence and Richelieu rivers where the city is located. It may as well hint to the merger of Sorel and Tracy being one with strong bonds of solidarity. The gears, located on top, evoke the city's industrial history in addition to the importance of the steel and metallurgy industries.

The wooden fortress evokes the mural crowns used in the former Sorel and Tracy coat of arms. It symbolizes Fort Richelieu as well the which marked the first French presence on the territory. In addition, represents that of Carignan-Salières Regiment, whose members made up the majority of inhabitants living in the seigneury of Saurel (later Sorel) in the 17th Century.

The herons and marshy ground symbolise the Lac Saint Pierre World Biosphere Reserve located in the Sorel-Tracy region.[3]
